Abstract
Purpose: We wished to evaluate and report the clinical results of the treatment of stable intertrochanteric fractures treated by the sliding screws with two-hole side plate fixation method.

Material and Methods: From January 2001 to October 2003, 20 patients had stable intertrochanteric fractures treated by the sliding hip screw with two-hole side plate fixation method. We evaluated the healing time, operative blood loss and time, postoperative ambulatory function, incidence of hardware failure and complications including the amount of collapse.

Results: The average time to union was 13 weeks. The average operative blood loss was 0.71 pint, and the operative time was 45 minutes. The average skin incision was 6 cm. The average collapse was 4.1 mm and the angle change of the neck shaft was 1.3¡Æ. There wasn¢¥t any hardware failure and all patients had a satisfactory postoperative ambulatory function.

Conclusion: The use of sliding hip screw with two-hole side plate produces satisfactory healing, and it results in a relatively low blood loss and short surgical time without any hardware failure.
